An adult Border Collie typically needs 1,080–1,350 calories per day, based on a calculation of 60–75 calories per kilogram of body weight. For example, an 18 kg dog would need this amount. However, this is an estimate and the exact amount varies based on age, activity level, and individual metabolism, so it’s crucial to monitor their weight and adjust as needed.

Treats shouldn’t make up more than 10% of their daily calorie intake as this can unbalance their diet.

Given their high energy needs, an average adult Border Collie typically requires 60–75 calories per kg of bodyweight per day. On average, an active adult Border Collie requires about 1,000 to 1,400 calories per day. This is the type of confusing guidance I referred to in the calorie guide article. But it does make sense if you are keeping checks on your dogs weight and then workng out the daily intake based on weight. Factoring in the activity is important too.

Border collies enjoy a variety of chews, from long-lasting natural options like bully sticks, pizzles and antlers. But dont forget the tasty softer chews like the beef strips. Every trainer will have their own preferred choice and the buck stops with the puppy collie as its their favourite that will get the results fastest. A working collie will be put through the routine by trainers with years of experience.

The Border Collie is a British breed of herding dog of the collie type of medium size. It originates in the region of the Anglo-Scottish border, and descends from the traditional sheepdogs once found all over the British Isles. It is kept mostly as a working sheep-herding dog or as a companion animal.
