Alaskan Malamute Characteristics

Alaskan Malamutes are large, powerfully built dogs known for their strength, loyalty, and friendly, affectionate nature with their families. Key characteristics include a thick double coat that requires regular grooming, high exercise needs, a strong work drive, and a mischievous streak that can make training challenging. They are also very vocal with howling, not barking, and can be prone to digging and have a high prey drive for smaller animals.

Alaskan Malamute Breed

The Alaskan Malamute is a large breed of dog that was originally bred for its strength and endurance, to haul heavy freight as a sled dog, and as a hound. It is similar to other arctic breeds such as the husky, the spitz, the Greenland Dog, Canadian Eskimo Dog, the Siberian Husky, and the Samoyed.

Alaskan Malamutes, one of the oldest dog breeds in the world, are large and powerful dogs with a reputation for being gentle giants.
